What Do You Think a Reporter Should Wear?
I’m starting a new job as a staff reporter for a small daily newspaper. One thing that bothers me is how my coworkers dress.
I see the head editors at a lot of newspapers in jeans and flannel shirts, and some of my coworkers wear shorts, t-shirts and sandals to school board meetings.
I am not a super attractive person, so, as I need all the help I can get, I normally wear ironed khakis and blue button-down shirts, if not a sport coat to important meetings. I not only feel better, but I also feel that it might help my credibility a little bit as a young reporter, to not dress like a schmuck.
Should I keep trying, or give in and accept it? Does dress affect your perception of reporters?
