Build a Strong Weight Loss Attitude by Eliminating These Common Sabotaging Thoughts
Having a strong and beneficial weight loss attitude will pull you toward your goal and allow you to work through difficult situations. 1. Globalizing. A common thought pattern that is seen in people who set out to lose weight is called globalizing. This means that they take a small negative and grow it into a symbol for all that is wrong with their weight loss journey. For instance, a dieter can be going strong and then stray from their plan for one moment by having a bowl of ice cream. At this point the really haven't done anything that they can't recover from but they dwell on this mistake and build on it telling themselves that they are weak and lack willpower and before the day is done they have quit their diet all together.
2. "Shoulda, Coulda, Woulda" This type of thinking leads to one thing - guilt. When you are always focused on what you should have eaten or what you could have done differently or what you would have done if you were stronger you will build a painful level of guilt inside. This soon becomes to uncomfortable and you have to relieve the pressure and unfortunately this often leads to overeating.
3. Self-labeling. This is a big trap. When you label yourself with a negative (i.e. I'm weak, I'm a failure, I will never change) instead of describing your behavior (I ate a cookie, I didn't get my full exercise session in) then you are setting yourself up for sabotage.
