Does the State of Iowa cover the cost of creamation for a parent that has no money or life insurance?

My mom recently passed away & her husband & we children don't have the means to pay for her cremation, which was a basic & direct creamation; we held our own service & can pay for her urn, but the $2400.00 outstanding bill at the funeral home is worrying us, since she had no life insurance or assets.

Sadly you will be left footing the bill. Social Security does provide a $650.00 death benifit which should help a little. Her husband, and minor children may also be eligible for survivor death benifits. My advice is to contact a social security attorney, their are plenty of them in the yellow pages and in internet directories.
